...Okay, this was an attempt at searching for this illustration's "look." I never should have gone as far as I did with this.
... I knew, even before I put the tie on the gentleman, that this was not going to stick. How did I know? The characters are far too ugly for the features section of the paper. Fun and friendly is the norm, and though I could argue that it is "fun" I don't think I could convince anyone that it's "friendly."
... So, why did I go this far? I like the characters. I could see using them in a "Heavy Metal" style story or illustration. I had to go this far to finish the thought.
... I already had in mind the direction I was going to go, due to the concept that was given to me in the beginning. I still like to try to explore in order to give something that's "more" than what was asked for. With this sketch I didn't find a totally new route to go, but I did find a different style of painting to use on their concept.
