...Dropping in these smaller, more vulnerable characters hit the nail on the head for me. It doesn't even matter that the dinosaur is slightly ridiculous looking-- it does look like a guy in a suit-- the reaction of the stranded adventurers sell it.
...Perhaps this is just a color rough for a more refined painting. Looking at it now, after having written all of this, I wish that the final result felt more like a real final result. But not every idea has to be forged into a finely crafted reality, does it? I think that impressionism can be applied to concepts as well as to art. In this case both idea and art are conveyed in an "unifnished" manner.
