Spacewreck

....I took another painting I made a few months back-- a painting I was not that fond of-- and used it as a springboard for this new incarnation. Scroll down below this painting to see the original.
...My idea was to show that this woman had crash landed on some unknown planet. While her ship burns she strikes out for a look around, hoping to find friendly natives or maybe a small town or outpost. Then, she hears a thunderous, screeching roar, and there, coming through the smoke, is a terrifying dinosaur beast.
...Yeah! I'd read the story if I saw an illustration that showed that!
...So, here, at stage one, I've roughed in the elements I want to adress and I'm willing to push things around to make them do what I want them to do as I go along. I know I wanted to give the woman a more believable pose, but this isn't it-- I'll work on that next.

...I created this at a low-res, not really intending to do anything finished when I started. I think I just wanted to try out some textures and different brushes (this was around the time I first discovered brush-making for photoshop so I was eager to play.)
...It's really a prime example of lax planning and poor awareness as far as standing on its own as an illustration. Did she wreck? Is that just the way everything burns when a rocket-ship of that make and model lands in a field of grass. Is the rocket supposed to lean over like that? Is SHE supposed to lean over like that-- although with that chest how could she not?
...Blah, I say. Although I kind of like the smoke and there is an idea in there that might make a better painting. Hmmm.
...Okay, now scroll back up and keep going.
