Death Cult of Neptune

.
My plan at the beginning was vague. I wanted to do another faux-pulp sci-fi cover.
...I created a canvas and just happened to stroke in shades of blue. Underwater, says I. Never done that before. How about a heroine fighting a giant nautilus with fangs? Great.
...Picture one: I roughed in the heroine and what I imagined a nautilus might look like. Hm. Not so good. So I found reference for what a real nautilus looks like; that was disheartening because I was not even close.
...I didn't want to wipe the thing out entirely and start over, so I decided to keep the basic design of my monster but I kept my eye on the reference material to help shape the filling out of the creature.
...If that makes any sense.
