...This was an assignment where I found myself in a bit of a bind. At work I usually am used for lighter-style illustrations, and-- assuming that this was the case-- I was creating the illustration that is posted below (scroll down to see it.)
... The writer was taking a serious look at the problem of online bullies and I strongly felt that what I was doing wasn't appropriate. It was my fault for not carefully consulting with the writer and I had to do a quick second attempt to find something a little more in line with the tone of the story.
... I like that it was quick, but I can see why I'm generally considered by those around the newsroom as a "friendlier" illustrator. If I hadn't stained that mouth a ghastly red color this would be a pretty happy-looking drawing.
... Oh well.
