Revenge of the Sith

...This was another little project that spoke directly to the twelve-year old kid that lurks in my past, and I like working from that perspective.
... I was given a slab of PAGE ONE real estate and told to fill it up with Star Wars imagery. Just put Darth at the top. Cool.
... The movie reviewer, Barry Caine, is a familiar face to the readers of our papers. He's featured prominently in our entertainment section on a regular basis and his smiling mug is used in promotional ads, so my use of him as a character in this package isn't as off-the-wall as it might seem to those of you from outside the local area.
... My intention was to have Barry-Wan standing with several of the featured characters, but it was going to be awful crowded. I did drawings of Mace Windu, Chebacca, Threepio, Obi-Wan and Padme... but they hit the cutting room floor. I was a little relieved because I was running out of time and getting them all to fit together and look good was going to be pretty intensive. And I thought I should leave some room for the story, which I almost lost track of.
... Good fun.
... It was cool to see it on the front page of the paper, it seemed so much bigger than I thought would be. God, I just thought–– what if George Lucas saw it? I hope he's not mad at me.
... (But the only sure way for him to keep me from doing stuff like this is to hire me-- Barry-Wan would be a GREAT character for the upcoming TV show. . .)
